Hillcrest Senior Life Center outlines summer programming and launches 'Share Your Story' series

Hillcrest Senior Life Center staff described a lineup of July activities and announced a new "Share Your Story" program to collect local seniors' life histories.
A Hillcrest representative said the center held craft classes, pottery painting and a July Fourth celebration and that activities are free unless a private vendor charges for materials. The center reported arts activities require advance sign-up and typically limit attendance to about 10'12 people per class.
The "Share Your Story" initiative grew from a request by a senior who wanted to tell family history and homesteading memories. The center said: "One of our ladies, 94 year old Miss Dorothy Dudley, was actually born in Clovis and has lived in Clovis her entire life, and so she's got lots of stories to tell." Staff said they plan to record selected stories at a local radio station for archival and broadcast possibilities.
Other Hillcrest programs include a newly started men's coffee social at 9 a.m. Mondays, Spanish-language bingo, gardening classes and presentations on Alzheimer's and dementia scheduled later in the month.
