Clovis RSVP and foster-grandparent programs report volunteer activity and recruitment needs

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent programs reported current volunteer counts, recent projects and a need for more volunteers ahead of the school year.
Program staff reported that the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has 72 active volunteers and described recent and planned service activities.
"Our RSV volunteers have partnered up with Keep America Beautiful Grant where our volunteers, Shannon Jackson assisted out in picking out and planting flower planters in front of Curry County admin office," the program representative said, describing beautification work and a community-learning garden that will provide produce to volunteers and detention-center participants.
Staff said the foster-grandparent program placed four grandparents at Clovis Community College for summer classes and is onboarding three new foster grandparents for the upcoming school year. Program staff said they need additional foster grandparents and volunteers for schools and community outreach and that each foster grandparent completes training, including 20 hours of service training and school-based safe-school training.
The senior-companion program was also highlighted for providing home visits, transportation and social support for isolated seniors. Staff said they will assist with the Alzheimer's Walk in September and will take over coordination of the Old Timers breakfast on Aug. 16 in partnership with county staff.
Program staff asked committee members to refer interested volunteers and said they continue monthly outreach at senior centers and in community locations.
