Clovis meal site reports higher participation; nutrition contracts and grants yield funding increases

"Last month in the meal site, we served 312 seniors. There were a total of 1,865 meals served in the congregate setting. We have 95 homebound seniors who received meals last month," a senior services representative reported. The representative also said home-delivered meals totaled 2,718 during the month across lunch, evening and weekend deliveries.
On funding, the committee heard that the Nutrition Services Incentive Program (NSIP) award for raw food purchases was $18,538, about a 12% increase over the prior year. The speaker said Title III state-and-federal funding amounted to $385,856, roughly a 6% increase from the previous contract year. Staff also said the New Mexico Grown grant contributed $15,000 to permit purchase of New Mexico-produced produce and meat.
Staff noted program growth and said the finance director reviewed the numbers and concluded the meal program appears financially stable for the coming fiscal year.
No committee action was required; the report was informational and committee members expressed appreciation for the program's expansions.
