Lincoln County Board Approves Curriculum Guide, Teacher Support Plan and Opens Policy Reviews; Enters Closed Session on Confidential Matters

The Lincoln County Board of Education approved several administrative items at its Dec. 10 meeting, including the high school registration curriculum guide for 2025–26, the beginning teacher support plan for 2024–25, and a committee recommendation to open multiple board policies for a 25-day public comment period.
Before taking those actions, the board moved into closed session pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(1) to discuss matters that are confidential under the law (specifically student and employee matters) and to discuss matters protected by attorney–client privilege. The board stated that no action was taken during closed session and returned to open session to proceed with the agenda.
On the motion to approve the high school registration curriculum guide, the maker of the motion was recorded as Miss Wyatt and the second was Miss Hebner. The board approved the guide by voice vote.
For the beginning teacher support plan for 2024–25 the motion was made by Miss Hebner and seconded by Miss Wyatt; the plan was approved by voice vote.
Fred Jarrett presented the recommendation of the ad hoc policy committee and explained the committee—s multi-year review process. Jarrett told the board the ad hoc committee began its work in November 2023 and subsequently reviewed policies through the 3,000 series; he identified 20 policies the committee recommends revising and placing open for 25 days for public comment. The board voted to keep the identified policies "open for 25 days" for input. The policies listed at the meeting included: 3120; 3210; 3220; 3225; 3226; 3227; 3310; 3410; 3420; 3430; 3450; 3505; 3510; 3540; 3550; 3570; and regulations or policies numbered 3570 (regulation), 3580, 3610 and 3623 as discussed.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which included approval of minutes from the Nov. 12 work session and Nov. 12 regular meeting, extended curricular field trips, personnel recommendations, the 2025 Board of Education meeting calendar, and the approval of policies that had been previously open for 25 days for input.
All motions on these action items passed by voice vote; the meeting minutes record the approvals and will include the signed ballots and policy public-comment postings where applicable.
