Christina Sutton was elected chair of the Lincoln County Board of Education in a written ballot at the board—s Dec. 10 organizational meeting, winning 5 votes to 2. Krista Hebner was selected vice chair by voice vote and both received the oath of office.
The election began with an open call for nominations. Krista Hebner nominated Sutton; Fred Jarrett and Tony Jenkins were both nominated for chair; Jenkins nominated Jarrett. Because there were two nominees, voting for chair was conducted by preprinted written ballot, as required by board policy. Board members were instructed to sign their ballots so votes could be included in the minutes.
Board attorney (name unclear in the transcript) read the ballots aloud. The roll call as read at the meeting showed: Miss Long — Christina Sutton; Kevin Sanders — Christina Sutton; Tony Jenkins — Fred Jarrett; Fred Jarrett — Fred Jarrett; Christina Sutton — Christina Sutton; Krista Hebner — Christina Sutton; Miss Wyatt — Christina Sutton. That produced a 5–2 result in Sutton—s favor.
After the chair vote, the board opened nominations for vice chair. Hebner was nominated by Sutton; Jarrett declined the nomination. Because there was only a single nominee, the board approved Hebner as vice chair by voice vote; the chair declared the ayes to have it.
Sutton and Hebner then took the oath of office administered on the dais. After being sworn in, Christina Sutton addressed the board and audience: "So fantastic. I just want to say thank you to my fellow board members for this opportunity, and I look forward to a really great year of us forming a team that represents our staff and students in this community really well." Krista Hebner also thanked the board and cited recent district initiatives she said she was glad to support.
The meeting opened by welcoming two newly elected board members, Brandy White and Kevin Sanders, and included a student-led pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence before the organizational business began. The board then circulated and signed its annual code of ethics.
No other formal action was taken as part of the election beyond the sworn oaths and acceptance of office. The board moved on to superintendent updates and recognitions after the reorganization and oath.
