Board approves budget amendment for teacher performance bonuses, accepts TSI plan and appoints chair and vice chair to bond committee

At its regular meeting, the Transylvania County Schools Board of Education approved several procedural and budgetary items with little debate.
The board approved a budget amendment (previously approved in December) that reallocates funds for two performance bonus line items (PRC 046 and PRC 048) totaling $104,980. A board member moved to approve the amendment and the motion passed by voice vote. "So you can actually see what we're talking about in this particular amendment ... this budget amendment was approved at the December board meeting ... additional allocations for PRC 046 and PRC 048 ... performance bonuses for teachers," the presenter said.
The board accepted a Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) plan for Brevard Middle School that the district must submit to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction no later than Jan. 30. Miss Renaud, who was remote, prepared the report and the board voted to accept the plan as presented. A board member asked for clarification about a listed curriculum item described as the "Sunday system," and administrators said they would verify whether that purchase is a character education program and provide details.
The board also appointed the chair and vice chair to the joint bond management committee (referred to in agenda materials as the Braun project management/joint committee) after a motion and second; the appointment passed by voice vote. The minutes show the chair and vice chair will serve on the committee as the board’s designees, per prior practice.
