Board considers sale of Confederate Lane parcel after planning board rejects redevelopment; tipping fees cited

Dr. Fletcher, the superintendent, told the board the planning board voted down using the property for the community appearance initiative and that available funds for the proposed work were insufficient. "The tipping fees alone are estimated at $6,000," she said when describing cleanup and site preparation costs.
Board members discussed next steps for a property that some in the community believe has a history of drug activity; the superintendent reported she had asked Officer Straub to check law‑enforcement records and that there was "lots of proof of drug activity, but the actual manufacturing ... there is not" documented. The board was advised that the normal process for disposing of district real property is to declare it surplus, offer it to the county first, and then proceed to negotiated sale, sealed bids or upset bid procedures.
No formal resolution was adopted at the meeting. The board asked the superintendent to prepare a draft resolution (to declare the property surplus and begin the sale process) for formal action at the next regular meeting so the board could consider an authorized sale or negotiated offer at that time.
