San Leandro council certifies Nov. 5 election, swears in new and re-elected members

San Leandro City Council adopted a resolution declaring the results of the Nov. 5, 2024, general municipal election official and held swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected and re-elected council members at its Dec. 16 meeting.
Council members voted unanimously, 7-0, to certify the election before moving to individual oath ceremonies for council members and to an appointment to the Senior Commission. The council appointed Richard Brennan (District 4) to the Senior Commission by a 7-0 vote.
City Manager Janelle Cameron announced earlier in the meeting that item 8B would be pulled from the agenda and returned at a later date. After the certification vote, the council proceeded to administer oaths: multiple officials and elected members presided over district swearing-in ceremonies that included newly sworn members such as Dylan Bolt for District 6 and other district representatives. Several council members and guests offered brief remarks after their oaths.
The council also handled the consent calendar and other business after the swearing-in events. Mayor Juan Gonzales temporarily passed the chair to Vice Mayor Fred Simon for a portion of the consent-item discussion because he recused himself from one consent item citing a possible real-property conflict.
