The Glendale City Council on Jan. 28 voted to approve the Montrose Shopping Park Association’s (MSPA) budget and work plan for calendar year 2025. MSPA leaders said the budget is conservative overall but includes a notable expansion of routine maintenance and a continued emphasis on events to draw visitors.
Dale Dawson, MSPA’s business administrator and event coordinator, told the council the association has switched to commercial-grade seasonal lighting that lasts multiple years, reducing annual replacement costs. The association also voted to increase its power-washing schedule to nine times per year; the city historically provided an additional monthly service (bringing coverage to 10 months out of 12), MSPA said. Dawson said the monthly power-washing runs roughly $4,000 per full-town cycle and that cleaning trash-can interiors had required one-time additional work and expense.
Dawson outlined a full slate of 2025 events, including a Feb. 7 spring kickoff, the seventh annual Spring Wine Walk on March 15, and a Kids & Critters Day; arts-and-crafts participation expanded last year and vendor demand outpaced available space, he said. Councilmembers praised the association’s programming and management; multiple council members said Montrose retains a “small-town” ambiance even as events draw regional visitors.
Resident commenters urged stronger city support for sidewalk and street washing. Mike Mohill, a public commenter, said Montrose is a city asset and asked the city to increase street washing support to help merchants.
A motion to approve the MSPA’s 2025 budget and work plan carried on roll call vote with councilmembers voting in favor; the staff item was approved as presented.
