NVHS choirs present 2024 winter concert featuring multilingual selections and alumni appearance

Northern Burlington County Regional High School’s choral program presented its 2024 winter concert, featuring performances by Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Treble Choir and Chorale and concluding with a combined O Holy Night featuring alumni.
The program included a mix of traditional carols and world-language selections. Concert Choir opened with a medley titled Holiday Road of Carols and Beautiful December. Chamber Choir, an auditioned ensemble of about 20 singers, performed Kuimba, a Swahili piece (translated as “let’s all sing together”), accompanied on percussion by Andrew DeRosa. The program also featured a Spanish rendition of “Noche de Paz” (Silent Night) with Cassidy Kittle on flute and a Ukrainian bell carol performed in English.
Chorale’s selections included a medley of holiday jazz standards recorded by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, featuring soloist Maria Gharaji and drummer Luke Sarrayan. Treble Choir performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree” with percussion by Parker Wingarski and Andrew DeRosa. The chorale portion included a rhythmic Christmas spiritual (Mary Satarachan) and a Hebrew prayer piece, “Avinu Malkeinu,” featuring soloists Caitlin Schilling and Carmela Goraju. Seniors Emilia Rabidavia, Aaron Lippincott and Sienna Lyon were featured as soloists for the traditional combined performance of O Holy Night, a long-standing Northern choir tradition.
Program director Katie Kershaw, who identified herself as in her second year teaching choir at NVHS, thanked administrators Dr. McCann, Ms. Cullen, Mr. Caddelyn, Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Konowitz as well as music department colleagues Sean Lindner, Shannon Hughes and Lauren Allen and collaborative pianist Ray Sanborn. Kershaw described the job as “truly the best job in the world” and asked the audience to observe concert etiquette such as silencing phones and avoiding flash photography.
The concert concluded with an invitation for alumni of the Northern Burlington County Regional High School choral program to join on stage for the Hallelujah Chorus and final remarks of thanks to parents and supporters.
