Lodi board highlights school-safety review, sets budget schedule and election filing deadline

Board members on Jan. 22 described recent safety reviews involving local and county law enforcement and outlined a timeline for the district’s 2025 budget and the upcoming school board election filing period.
Superintendent Frank D'Amico and board members said Detective Castro, district staff and police partners reviewed school-safety procedures at a recent safety meeting. Dr. Laura Sima and other trustees praised the precautions and said the district’s practices were impressive during the committee review. Board members named Detective Castro, Mr. Dawson (the district’s school safety specialist), the Lodi Police Department, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Bergen County SWAT Team as collaborators that have reviewed district procedures.
On district finance and schedule matters, the board announced that nominating petitions for the April 15, 2025 annual school election would be available and that the filing deadline for candidates is Feb. 24, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. The board’s preliminary budget discussions began in August and administrators began preparing building-level budgets in October; the board’s finance committee will meet in February. The district must submit its budget to the county office on March 7, 2025, and district officials said they do not receive state aid until Feb. 27, 2025. The board said it will hold a special meeting the week of March 6, 2025 (likely March 6) to finalize the budget before the county submission date.
Trustees also congratulated students inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at Thomas Jefferson Middle School on Jan. 16; the board cited the ceremony and advisors for the recognition.
Board members emphasized that school safety remains a top priority and said the district will continue to review and improve procedures with law enforcement and school-safety staff.
