Lincoln Park Mayor Tobin and the city council unanimously approved a resolution to change the order of business so the invocation comes before the Pledge of Allegiance.
The resolution, introduced by Mayor Tobin and cited as being taken pursuant to "ordinance 210.01 d," was presented as a formal change to the council's meeting order. Mayor Tobin told council members he was proposing the change to reflect longstanding practice "because it's always been God before country," and referenced Robert's Rules of Order as supporting that sequence.
Council members voted by roll call; all present voted yes. The resolution sets the order for regular meetings as: meeting called to order, invocation, Pledge of Allegiance, roll call, mayor's remarks, public hearings/presentations as needed, consent agenda, action items, city manager's report, department head reports, citizen communications, oral reports, and adjournment.
The item passed without further amendment or recorded public comment. The change will be incorporated into the council's meeting procedures for subsequent regular meetings.
