Council refers 'Plan This City' comprehensive plan draft to Planning Commission for public hearing

Anderson City Council voted unanimously Feb. 3 to refer the draft comprehensive plan, marketed as "Plan This City," to the Planning Commission for an official public hearing scheduled Feb. 20.
City Manager McEwen and Maurice McKenzie, planning and development director, briefed the council on the multi‑year plan, which staff said was developed with public forums, stakeholder meetings and online input. McKenzie said the plan contains the statutorily required elements under South Carolina law, including population, economic development, land use, housing, transportation, natural resources and resiliency.
McEwen told the council the draft is posted on a project webpage where residents may submit comments in advance of the planning commission hearing. Council members asked for printed copies to review and discussed the benefit of the plan providing consistent guidance for future decisions.
Motion to refer the draft to the Planning Commission was made by Doctor Thompson and seconded by Mister John Roberts; the vote was unanimous. Council members indicated the plan will return to them after the Planning Commission considers it and holds its public hearing.
