Anderson fire, EMS crews credited with saving two residents after Dec. 22 house fire

Mayor and city council members honored first responders on Feb. 3 for a Dec. 22 house fire in which crews rescued and stabilized two people.
Chief King told the council that Anderson Fire Department units — three engine companies, a ladder company, rescue and a battalion chief — responded within about two minutes of dispatch. King said firefighters encountered a working fire in the rear of a single‑family home and heavy smoke throughout the structure. A neighbor alerted crews that a car in the rear suggested occupants might still be inside, and crews focused immediately on finding anyone trapped.
"It's the teamwork of professionals that make a difference," Chief King said. He credited Anderson County EMS paramedics and MedShore ambulance crews for providing advanced care before both patients were flown to the Augusta Burn Center for specialized treatment.
The mayor and Chief King named the deployed crews and support staff during the council meeting. Council members and staff described the response as a cooperative effort among five agencies and thanked dispatchers and ambulance personnel for their roles in both rescue and pre‑hospital care.
The council did not take any policy action related to the incident; the presentation was a public recognition of the responders and their roles in the rescue.
