Norton council closes public hearing on NOPEC electric aggregation; no public comments

The Norton City Council on Jan. 21 held a public hearing on two ordinances that would allow the city to join the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) electricity aggregation program and adopt NOPEC’s plan of operation.
Council President read the ordinance numbers and asked the clerk to certify the legal notice for the hearing. The clerk certified that notices were published in the Barberton Gazette on Jan. 16, 2025, and in the Norton News on Jan. 13, 2025.
Council asked three times if anyone wished to speak for or against Ordinance 9-2025 (authorizing participation in NOPEC’s aggregation program) or Ordinance 10-2025 (approving NOPEC’s plan of operation and governance). No members of the public rose to speak and the council closed the public hearing and returned to regular business.
Both ordinances were at the second-reading stage; no formal vote on adoption took place at the Jan. 21 meeting. Council scheduled future public hearings and readings as required by local procedure.
