The Atoka board on Jan. 21 approved a job description for a part‑time fire department grant writer with a pay cap of $25,000 per year.
Fire Department leadership told the board that Captain Hall has been performing grant work (remotely) and, according to the chief, has secured more than $600,000 for the department over approximately five years. The job description would formalize the role as a part‑time position (the chief described the cap as roughly equivalent to 44 hours per 28‑day cycle at an hourly rate of $42.86).
Chief and board members discussed using the position to support other departments — police, parks and public works — and asked for performance documentation and oversight. The chief said weekly activity reports would document research, writing and management work; the board discussed evaluating the arrangement after one year and, if appropriate, expanding townwide grant‑writing resources during the upcoming budget process.
Alderman Giannini moved to approve the job description (Exhibit M); Alderman Schaffer seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote. The vote and minutes record approval of the job description; actual hiring, salary and any cross‑department shared arrangements will follow applicable hiring and budget rules.
