City manager: three RAMP grants submitted; council reminded to file conflict disclosures; STEM judges sought

Roy — At the Roy City Council meeting on Jan. 21, City Manager Matt told council members the city has submitted three RAMP grant applications for park improvements and other activities and asked council members to indicate interest in attending the Utah League of Cities and Towns (ULCT) training in April. He also reminded elected officials to file conflict-of-interest disclosures required under House Bill 80.
Matt said the city submitted three RAMP grants: one for upgrades to Foxglen Park, one to fund tree plantings in city parks, and one to support a concert series in the park. He said enrollment for the ULCT training will open soon for the event that begins April 16 and urged council members to notify staff if they plan to attend.
Matt also reviewed recent outreach about ethics filings. “House bill 80 last year when it was approved specifically stated that all of us elected people have to fill out that conflict of interest disclosure,” he said, and asked council members to return completed forms to Britney for posting. He said staff can provide examples and assistance and indicated the city has a legal responsibility to post disclosures on the website.
Manager Matt and staff also reminded council members about upcoming community engagement opportunities: Weber School District’s STEM competition will be held Feb. 18 at Weber State University from about 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and organizers are looking for judges.
During public comment, resident Leon Wilson praised the fire department’s 2024 response statistics and the recent city newsletter. Wilson said the department is “responding to 16 calls a day” and described the newsletter as “phenomenal.”
No formal council action was recorded on the grants, training attendance or ethics filings during the meeting; the items were reported for consideration and follow-up by staff.
