Planning Commission Recommends Rezone of 0.81-acre Pratt Flex Parcel for Daycare

The West Jordan City Planning Commission recommended unanimously Dec. 17 that a 0.81-acre parcel at approximately 3703 West 6200 South be rezoned from A-5 (agriculture) to CG (general commercial) to allow a daycare or preschool use.
Megan, a city staff presenter, told commissioners the property “is 0.81 acres” and that the applicant intends to use the existing building on the site as a daycare or preschool. Staff said the rezoning request conforms to the 2022 General Plan future land use map, which designates the location as neighborhood commercial, and recommended a positive recommendation to city council.
The commission opened and closed the public hearing with no public comment. Commissioner Allen moved for a positive recommendation to the city council to rezone the parcel from A-5 to CG; Commissioner Gonzales seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Under the zoning change, a daycare would require an administrative conditional-use approval before operating. Staff noted the existing building on the lot would remain and no site changes were proposed as part of the rezone application.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the West Jordan City Council for final action. The council will consider the rezoning and any subsequent conditional-use process required for a daycare or preschool at the site.
