County extension reports $16,000 in summer programming funding, livestock sales and council changes

Extension staff ran several STEM initiatives: a “4‑H STEM to Go” backpack program that had 210 checkouts and an estimated total use of more than 550 youth, weekly summer coding sessions attended by 32 children, a girl‑focused coding camp with 17 participants and 150 take‑and‑make STEM kits distributed through public libraries. Graham also said the 4‑H club in Bismarck received a recent $300 grant to assemble meal kits for families in need.
On the livestock side, Mike Graham, the county livestock specialist, reported the Show Me Select heifer sale program generated gross revenues of $692,775 in 2024. Graham said Mike handled 53 phone calls, 10 walk‑ins and 15 farm visits related to livestock work; Katie Candler, the horticulture specialist, logged 107 inquiries from 16 counties and three states.
