Montezuma County plans $20,000 cost-share request to Colorado Department of Agriculture for noxious-weed control

Dietrich summarized recent program work: the department and a new staff member (Russell) conducted outreach and presentations to local Master Land Stewardship and Master Gardener programs, completed mapping with the GIS department, and treated roughly 5,000 acres this year across about 151 discrete records. Staff discovered instances of yellow bluestem grass on state watch lists along Highway 160 and near the fairgrounds and sprayed small patches under the county’s management.
Dietrich said the department plans to drop the Agterra mapping subscription (about $500 per year) because in-house mapping with GIS meets current needs, but said the county could re-enroll if future workload requires it. He also noted surveys from the Colorado Department of Agriculture regarding other invasive species (Ventanata grass) and said Montezuma County is not currently aware of that species in the county but will continue monitoring.
Dietrich asked commissioners to review the CDA cost-share application form; staff planned to bring the application back the following day for discussion and signature if commissioners agree.
