TCEQ reports fewer pending orders and details fiscal‑year enforcement metrics

At the Nov. 19 meeting the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reviewed the monthly enforcement report for fiscal year 2025 through November. Enforcement staff reported 216 effective administrative orders issued to date, including 20 that contain supplemental environmental projects, and total assessed administrative penalties of $2,391,563 with a payable amount of $1,440,545. Twenty different amounts were noted for SEPs ($595,016 to be paid toward SEPs according to the presentation).
Staff also reported 3,795 notices of violation issued, 364 enforcement action referrals received, 3,102 pending administrative orders with 1,478 cases on the backlog, and 125 cases pending at the attorney general's office for representation in district court. Staff said turnover among senior staff temporarily increased the backlog but that they are reallocating resources to reduce it.
Commissioners thanked staff for improvements in backlog trajectory and emphasized the importance of timely enforcement; no action was required on the report.
