The Richland County Office of Small Business Opportunity (OSBO) reported current small-local-business-enterprise certification totals and announced a workshop aimed at helping underserved contractors access surety bonding.
OSBO reported 244 active SLBE certifications across categories: 7 architectural and engineering, 62 construction, 93 nonprofessional services, 76 professional services and 6 wholesale certifications. The office said it has 10 pending new applications and 8 renewals in process.
OSBO announced a free in-person workshop titled "From Bonding to Bidding: How Surety Bonds Enhance Contracting Opportunities," led by Peter C. Gibbs, president and CEO of Foundation Surety and Insurance Solutions. The event is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Conference Room at the Richland County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St., Columbia, SC. OSBO said lunch and free surface parking will be provided and that registration is available via a short link and on the county website. The office provided a phone number (803-576-1540) and an email (osbo@richlandcountysc.gov) for questions.
OSBO framed this year's outreach under the theme "Transform, Succeed, Repeat" and said the workshop will cover how surety bonds increase contracting opportunities, steps in the bonding process and how underserved markets can gain access to surety.
