Board hears updates on contract bids and Sodexo menu changes at high school

The Township of Ocean Board of Education discussed two operational items Jan. 28: a planned renewal of statewide bidding services provided by Educational Data Services and recent menu changes made by the district’s food service contractor, Sodexo.
Mr. Weinstein, staff member in the business office, said the district uses Educational Data Services for statewide bidding and that the item (8.4 on the agenda) is for an annual manual renewal. “We, are annually, we use educational data services, which is item 8.4. They’re statewide and provide, bidding services for us. We've used them in the years past, and they do a terrific job. As you can see, [they] create savings for the district in the purchase of materials,” Weinstein said, explaining the savings are calculated by comparing catalog pricing to bid prices.

Separately, staff reported follow‑up conversations with Sodexo after the company submitted an RFP and made menu adjustments. Mr. Jones, staff member, said Sodexo upgraded deli offerings at the high school and opened a new station that students are using. Jones noted changes were made to balance nutritional offerings with sales volume and contractual guarantees. “They’ve upgraded the deli offerings at the high school, and opened a new station there that the kids seem to be responding well to,” Jones said.
The board did not take formal contract action at the work session on either item. No renewal vote or contract amendment was recorded; procurement and food service changes were presented as information and as ongoing contract management steps. District staff said nutritional information is available for many items under Sodexo’s program but did not provide a detailed menu or sales data in the work session.
