The Macon County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a resolution examining official bonds for public officials and adopted a calendar of regular meetings for 2025 at its Dec. 20, 2024 session.
County staff requested a motion to approve the resolution examining public-official bonds as part of routine annual duties; the board approved the resolution unanimously after a motion and second. The board then reviewed and approved the schedule of regular meetings for 2025.
Several commissioners raised concerns about holding only one evening meeting each month. One commissioner said the schedule can be “completely unfair to the county employees,” noting staff have at times stayed late into the night and suggesting the board consider morning sessions or other adjustments during intensive work periods such as the budget process. Board members discussed trying changes to presentations and agenda control to shorten meetings and reduce overtime costs.
Interim County Manager Warren Cave reminded the board that the regular Tuesday meeting on Nov. 11, 2025, falls on Veterans Day, and said the board may move or reschedule that date if it prefers. Staff also told the board to expect a likely special midyear budget review around February to prep for next year’s budget process.
All procedural votes on the bond resolution and the 2025 meeting calendar passed unanimously by raised hands.
