Board approves split finance/audit committees, new policy and infrastructure committees

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 10 to reorganize several advisory committees, separating finance and audit duties, renaming the homeless support panel and creating a new infrastructure committee.
The board approved splitting the existing Finance and Audit Committee into two bodies: a Finance Committee to focus on budget, tax and finance-related items (and to absorb the ARP committee) and an Audit Committee to handle the annual audit required by the state. The board also approved creating a Policy Committee to review and recommend policy positions and renaming the Homeless Support Center Committee to the Unhoused Support Center Committee. The new Infrastructure Committee will focus on water, broadband, sewer and roads and will absorb the Grays Creek and countywide water committee work.
Why it matters: Commissioners said the changes aim to clarify committee responsibilities and concentrate audit work separately from budget and finance deliberations. During the meeting the presenter told commissioners the changes would allow the county to better focus oversight and policy review.
