Orderville board creates Recreation Development Committee, appoints chair and pushes grant work

The Orderville Town Board on an affirmative vote adopted Resolution 20250205 to create an ad hoc Recreation Development Committee to plan, seek funding for and study the feasibility of a town park or improvements to the current Little League baseball facility. The board also appointed Courtney Miller as the committee chair.
The action formalizes work local volunteers and staff have been doing and is intended to centralize grant-writing, bids and planning. The resolution authorizes a committee of five — a chair and four community members — with a town board member serving as an adviser. The committee cannot itself expend funds; the board retained final approval for expenditures but authorized an adviser to approve up to $2,500 to avoid project delays.
Courtney Miller, named chairperson by the board, told elected officials she needs help gathering bids, maps, renderings and other materials required for the new Community Parks and Recreation (CPR) grant program with an application deadline of March 17. Miller said volunteers already are helping and requested access to municipal information and staff support to complete the application.
Board members said they expect to take applications for committee membership for 10 business days and will review applicants at the next regular meeting in March. Several board members offered to help with outreach and to connect Miller with a county grant writer who may assist with grant preparation. A potential land swap involving property where the town pool sits and land offered by resident Tyler Schoke was raised as a possibility to be explored under a separate agenda item.
The resolution passed by roll-call during the meeting, with the board recording a 5–0 vote to adopt Resolution 20250205. The appointment of Miller as chair also passed 5–0.
The board and staff urged Miller to proceed with preliminary grant work and to use volunteer help immediately so the March 17 deadline could be met, even though full committee membership will be selected after the application period closes.
