Council reviews state-required conflict-of-interest forms and OPMA training for elected and appointed officials

Interlaken staff told the council on Feb. 4 that the town had received guidance requiring completion of conflict-of-interest disclosure forms and OPMA (Open and Public Meetings Act) training for certain officials.
Staff said the lawyer reviewed the required form and described it as mirroring disclosure items already in the town code. Some council members said they found the form burdensome but manageable; one councilor said they had already completed and returned the form. Staff said the completed forms would be posted on the town website under the Government section and proposed bundling them into a single document for secure posting.
Staff emphasized that the requirement likely extends beyond councilors to the planning commission and the adjustment board and noted the forms and training are part of the town’s accepted uses and practices annual report. Staff offered to meet individually to help councilors complete the form and to notarize where required. No vote was taken; staff asked councilors and commission members to complete the forms and to contact staff with questions.
