Commissioners said the event would replicate a semi-successful co-hosted expo from the prior year and suggested greater planning to recruit employers from multiple industries so resume reviewers match attendees’ fields. A commissioner noted the prior event drew employers and community members and recommended having diverse industry volunteers to review resumes rather than relying solely on commissioners with STEM backgrounds.
At the meeting one commissioner said of resume review volunteers, “my experience and expertise only stays in that box,” explaining why the event should recruit reviewers across sectors. Commissioners suggested two candidate Saturdays—Sept. 13 or Sept. 20—so the event would not conflict with the air show (last Saturday in September) or other town events. They also discussed advertising the expo at Taste of Leesburg in August.
No formal vote was taken; commissioners asked staff to hold the two September weekends as provisional options and to coordinate outreach planning over the spring and summer. The commission will follow up on logistics, industry volunteer recruitment, and coverage if the commission also hosts a table at the Flower & Garden festival.
