Leesburg Diversity Commission asked to send representative to Feb. 24 budget work session

The Leesburg Diversity Commission was asked at its Feb. 19 meeting to provide one representative to the Town Council’s budget work session scheduled for Feb. 24 so council members can ask questions about boards-and-commissions funding.
The request came from the town manager and was read into the commission’s agenda by a commission member. “The town manager would like, either the chair or a representative from each commission to be present, just 1 person from each board of commission, just in case the, council has any questions,” the chair said.
Commissioners discussed attendance and staffing. Chair Lisa Marie said she can serve as a backup for a commissioner who wishes to attend: “I can absolutely provide backup support to whoever wants to go,” she said. Town staff asked that commissioners not ask staff to appear as the primary respondent during the council session; instead, the town manager preferred that a commission member represent the commission if council questions arise.
No formal vote was taken at the Feb. 19 meeting on which commission member will attend. Commissioners were encouraged to coordinate by email and to notify the chair or staff if they plan to represent the commission at the council’s Feb. 24 session.
