Supervisors amend master matrix to reflect actual tree planting at Burt 21 hog facility

Kossuth County supervisors voted unanimously to amend the county master matrix for a hog facility to reflect that windbreak trees were planted on the north side of the building rather than the south.
Scott Jacobson, who identified himself as a representative of Summit Agricultural Group, told the board that "when we built the original hog facility ... we put in solar and trees. And the directions of the trees got switched." He said the company had reached out to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and that DNR had "ok'd it." Jacobson added that the trees were already planted and that the requested action was largely a paperwork formality.
The change affects the Burt 21 hog facility, located west of Burt, according to discussion in the meeting. A supervisor said he had spoken with the closest neighbor prior to the submission and reported no concerns. Another supervisor noted that having the trees on the north side reduced snow drifting on nearby roads and aligned with prevailing winds.
Motion to approve the amendment was made by Supervisor Jarzt and seconded by Supervisor Wachter. The board voted in favor with no recorded opposition.
The supervisors treated the item as an administrative update to ensure county records matched the actual site configuration and the DNR permit. No changes to operations, capacity or other permit conditions were described at the meeting.
The board thanked the applicants and closed the item.
