Humboldt County supervisors approved a purchase to add one AutoCAD user seat so two county designers can work simultaneously without sharing a single license.
Staff told the board the county has two active designers in the office and previously rotated a single license between them. Autodesk moved to subscription licensing, which requires individual active seats for concurrent users. Staff said the new seat will cover the remainder of the current subscription term (about two years and several months) and cited a vendor credit quote of $6,144.28 for the remainder of the term.
Board discussion noted that last year the county purchased a three-year extension (discussed on the record as roughly $75,100, per staff comment) and that future renewals are likely to continue under subscription pricing. Staff argued keeping design work in-house provides better service to Humboldt County than outsourcing to consultants.
A board member moved to accept the credit quote for $6,144.28 and add the additional seat; the motion was seconded and the board approved the purchase.
Staff said the county will likely consider a standard renewal at the end of the remaining term and budget for continued subscription costs in the future.
