Carroll County approves $50,258.80 pickup for secondary roads

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a pickup truck for the county secondary roads fleet from Carl Chevrolet for $50,258.80.

Zach, representing secondary roads, reviewed two quotes and said the vehicles' MSRPs were identical and that both vendors would require roughly the same build time (about two to four months). He recommended accepting the lower quote from Carl Chevrolet. Board members discussed keeping the business local versus saving taxpayer dollars and confirmed warranty and in‑house maintenance arrangements would be manageable.

The board made and seconded a motion to approve the quote and purchase from Carl Chevrolet for $50,258.80; the motion carried.

Zach presented the procurement as a like‑for‑like replacement for an existing truck (for an employee named Chris), saying he had sought “apples to apples” quotes and found comparable specifications. Supervisors asked about vendor availability and warranty service; Zach said neither vendor had the vehicle on the lot and delivery would be by custom build.

A supervisor noted a preference for supporting local businesses when price differences were small; other supervisors countered they had to consider the county’s fiscal responsibilities. No vote tally with individual names was read into the record; the board recorded the motion as carried.

The approved purchase will be added to the county fleet to replace the older vehicle used by county road staff. No additional conditions or follow‑up tasks were specified at the time of the vote.
