Humboldt County Fair Board asks supervisors for $30,000 in annual support

Hazelton described programming moves intended to boost early-week attendance: moving the queen contest to Tuesday night in front of the grandstand, launching the carnival that night and providing wristbands to children at the queen event so they can ride from 7–9 p.m. He said many 4-H events will occur on Wednesday evening inside the south event center and that the fair will continue to host grandstand entertainment, truck pulls, a country concert and other traditional events through Monday livestock shows.
Hazelton said the fair board recently added a new member and that board members had secured materials and equipment through donated hauling and contractor work. He emphasized safety and usability improvements at the arena and noted that the fair returns proceeds to youth through livestock boosters. He also said the board is trying to maintain long-term carnival relationships so that a carnival continues to be available to the county fair.
Supervisors and attendees asked clarifying questions about the schedule changes and logistics; Hazelton said the carnival supplier comes from Webster City and that adjustments were intended to stimulate early attendance.
