The mayor and Matt Valentine of USL Dallas announced that a new United Soccer League (USL) professional men’s team will be based in Garland and is scheduled to begin play in the 2027 season.
Matt Valentine said the club will be the 28th USL team and described the next steps as building a home in Garland. The city and team are negotiating a multipurpose complex the mayor said will include the USL Dallas headquarters, practice fields, community soccer fields, a public plaza and up to a 10,000-seat stadium. The mayor said the site was described in the address as being near the President George Bush Turnpike and that associated development is anticipated around the complex.
Valentine said the team is planning public outreach including a fan forum, and described community initiatives already under way: working with a Garland elementary school to provide cleats and jerseys for fourth- and fifth-graders and developing a community scholarship program the team hopes to launch next year.
The mayor and Valentine emphasized that negotiations were ongoing and that additional public announcements and details will follow. No council vote or formal city agreement was announced during the address.
