Council hears update on I‑15 additional lanes; RFQ for design firms approved by regional panel, draft EIR comment period ongoing

At the Jan. 28 meeting, Mayor Pro Tem McGee told the council that the Riverside County Transportation Commission’s I‑15 ad hoc committee approved issuing a request for qualifications to select design firms for additional travel lanes on I‑15 from Cajalco (Cajalco Road area) toward Highway 74.
McGee said the committee completed a draft environmental impact report late last year and that staff had received 248 comments on the draft EIR; those comments are being reviewed and McGee said staff expect to finish that work by the end of the year. She asked residents to stay tuned for additional updates from the county and commission.
No local council votes were taken on the I‑15 project at the meeting; McGee’s remarks were a report on regional activity and next steps in the county-led planning process.
