Acme Improvement District landowners select chair and vice chair; notice, voting rule confirmed

Miss Hall, secretary of the board, read a published notice that the Acme Improvement District landowners meeting would be held “immediately following the conclusion of the Wellington council meeting” at about 7 p.m. Jan. 28, 2025, in the council chambers at Wellington Village Hall, 12300 Forest Hill Boulevard.
The meeting served as the annual landowners meeting for the Acme Improvement District, a special district that remains in place after incorporation and is administered by the Village of Wellington council acting as the district’s board of supervisors. “We are still required to meet the statutory requirements of Chapter 298 of the Florida Statutes, and also our enabling legislation,” said Mister Barnes, district administrator, describing the legal basis for holding the landowners meeting.
Barnes and other board members clarified how voting in the district is cast. He said many Chapter 298 districts use votes represented by acreage, “however, this district, similar to some other newer special districts, actually have a one person, one vote as far as residency is required.” A roll call followed, and the board reported that all members were present.
The board moved to select a chairperson to conduct the meeting. After a motion to select a chairperson was offered and a board member said, “I’ll third,” the chair and vice chair of the Village of Wellington were confirmed to serve as chair and vice chair of the Acme Improvement District board for this meeting. No roll-call vote was recorded and no opposition was raised on the record.
With no additional landowner comments at the meeting, the chair adjourned the session.
The meeting record notes that the meeting notice was published on the Wellington legal notices page of the Palm Beach County legal notice website on Jan. 14 and Jan. 21, 2025, and that a sign-in sheet placed at the back of the room for this meeting will be placed into the record.
