Volunteers clear trash from Fish Creek Linear Park in Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful cleanup

More than three dozen volunteers gathered at Fish Creek Linear Park on a late January Saturday for Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful’s 7th annual Fish Creek Cleanup Challenge, the event narrator said.

Organizers said the day-long effort invited volunteer groups, families and individuals to pick up litter and debris along the park’s 7.3-mile Fish Creek Trail with the goal of improving environmental quality and trail conditions for residents and visitors.

“Were you surprised when you got down there and to see how much trash there is?” the event narrator asked as the cleanup began. A participant identified in the transcript as Volunteer 3, a cleanup participant, said, “It’s a lot more than I remember. It’s on all the trees where it’s hard to get, so we try to do as much as we could. We just need a minute to try to free it up, and then you guys can go crazy getting it.”

Volunteer 4, another participant, said the group was pleased by turnout and singled out local youth involvement: “We’re very appreciative of all the Boy Scouts and and young troops out here, learning about the quality of keeping our environment clean. So glad the residents from all over the cities are coming out and joining us.”

A resident who was jogging by and returned to help, identified in the transcript as Resident Jogger, said, “I saw the booth set up over there as I was running, so I inquired and they told me you guys are doing a clean up. I said, well, that case I’ll just be right back.” The transcript also records participants describing the work as a way to teach children and neighbors to care for the park.
