Leesburg presents 2024 sustainability report highlighting building energy tracking, EV charging and composting

Deb Moran, a sustainability staff member for the Town of Leesburg, presented the town’s 2024 sustainability report at the council work session on Jan. 27. She summarized progress across six categories, including building energy, transportation, land use, water, solid waste and parks and open space.
The report highlighted the town’s new energy-management software, Energy Cap, which Moran said “is going to be the backbone of all of the work that we do in terms of energy efficiency.” The tool aggregates roughly 150 monthly town energy bills, allows cost-per-area comparisons between buildings, and performs bill audits to flag abnormal charges for staff review.
Moran recapped the town’s established energy targets: a 50% reduction in purchased energy for most municipal operations (excluding water and wastewater) and a 10% reduction target for water and wastewater facilities. She also described solar…
