Appropriations committee passes $2.07 million in water planning appropriations in omnibus bill

Jason Mead, director of the Water Development Office, briefed the Senate Appropriations Committee on Senate File 82, the annual omnibus water planning bill. Mead said the bill appropriates funding from water development accounts and authorizes the Water Development Commission to execute the projects the commission and select water committee recommended.
Mead summarized the bill's structure: projects in Account 1 for reconnaissance studies and master plans totaling $534,998; Account 2 reconnaissance level‑1 studies including three master plans totaling $980,000; and Account 3 dam and reservoir program work, specifically the Middle Popo Agie River Storage Study at a level‑2 study cost of $551,000. "Total appropriation in the bill being $2,065,998," Mead said.
A representative of the Wyoming Business Alliance, Chris Mickey, spoke in support and said water is a critical resource for the state's top industries. Committee members commended the Water Development Commission for vetting projects through its review process.
The committee recorded a roll call vote on Senate File 82: five ayes were recorded and the bill passed out of committee.
Mead provided committee members a project folder and said the bill is a routine annual vehicle to enable execution of approved planning projects; the folder lists each project, location and account. Committee members did not question specific project allocations during the appropriations hearing.
