Transportation Public Works reports dedicated bus lanes for Project CONNECT, Vision Zero lighting and ticket-dismissal program

Mendoza said city staff and CapMetro installed dedicated bus lanes on Trinity and San Jacinto to support the Project CONNECT Expo line, scheduled to begin service this spring. Mendoza described the lanes as a collaborative undertaking that also improved crosswalks and bicycle facilities.
On safety, Mendoza said the department is beginning a Vision Zero lighting project that will add lighting upgrades at 14 locations with an expected eight-month timeline. "Data shows that, at nighttime, collisions frequently, lack of lighting is one of the factors in that," Mendoza said.
Mendoza also described a ticket-dismissal program intended to promote safe choices after late-night events: residents who use a rideshare to get home and leave their vehicle parked in a city space overnight can present a rideshare receipt plus any parking ticket and request dismissal. Mendoza said the program is intended as a public-safety incentive to reduce impaired driving.
The report included other operational updates: the department has worked with Austin High School and AISD on parking adjustments near the school; CapMetro updated service-level changes and approved routing adjustments in anticipation of Expo and Pleasant Valley Bus Rapid Transit lines; and staff noted continued progress on Airport Boulevard and Slaughter Lane construction projects with Capital Delivery Services.
Committee members were directed to CapMetro's board pages for further detail on fare and service discussions. No formal committee action was taken on the report.
