Brenda Armstrong, speaking for Highland’s youth programs, introduced and swore in the 2025 Highland Youth City Council at the January meeting. Armstrong identified the youth mayor and deputy mayor and introduced the leadership and council members to the city council.
Armstrong said members were selected after interviews and vetted through applications; she described the youth council’s goals as learning how local government works, supporting city events and leading service projects in the community. She named Julia Bartholomew as youth mayor and Amy Claussen as deputy mayor. Communication chairs named were Gretchen Skidmore and Joseph Egan; Isaac Strong was identified as service chair. Other members introduced included Bodie Ray, Sasha Bertola, Jonathan Giger, Jane Creer, Matthew Bartholomew, Lizzie Yates, Ray Strom and Luke Skaggs.
Council members welcomed the new Youth City Council and encouraged members to participate actively in events such as the Highland Fling and annual community programs. City staff and council members offered to be points of contact for the youth leadership as they plan service activities.
No formal action was required; the presentation served as an introduction and public recognition of the youth council’s 2025 membership.
