UN: nearly a third of Lebanon faces acute food insecurity after late‑2024 escalation

A new integrated food security assessment developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme and Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture reports that nearly a third of Lebanon’s population is facing acute food insecurity after the conflict escalation in late 2024.
The analysis finds about 1,650,000 people are now in IPC phase 3 or above (crisis or emergency), up from 1,260,000 before the escalation. It says roughly 201,000 people are in emergency levels (IPC phase 4), about double the pre‑escalation figure. The report projects that food insecurity will persist for at least the next three months absent substantial changes.
The UN said ongoing humanitarian efforts will be critical to supporting recovery and emphasized the need for sustained aid to reach affected communities.
