Building Standards and Renewal Board: Staff presented a recommendation to create a five-member Building Standards and Renewal Board to handle dilapidated and substandard properties. Edwin Henriquez, director of administrative services, told commissioners the board should include one person with at least one year of construction experience and four residents from the city. Commissioners expressed concern about recruiting qualified members, questioned whether the commission could handle some duties directly and noted the existing ordinance dates to the mid-1990s.
