The Lamar City Council approved a proposal from Jessica Schultz to organize a Wednesday farmers market at Foster Park on Wednesdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in June and July, timed to run before the Lamar Municipal Band concerts.
Councilmembers heard that the market operated on a trial basis in summer 2024 under the city administrator's permission and that vendors must show proof of liability insurance naming the city as an additional insured. Schultz said the market drew more traffic when it was near the band's schedule; organizers plan to set up on the park—s northwest corner to avoid the main sidewalk and to reduce interference with band equipment.
A councilmember said the municipal band director supports the market and recommended tying the market's insurance to the farmers market insurance policy. The council approved the request by voice vote after a motion and second: "All those in favor say aye," followed by "Opposed? Motion carried."
Council discussion noted that the city is named as an additional insured on vendor policies; the city will not pay the insurance but requires proof of coverage for sales on city property. No licensure or vendor-count details were specified at the meeting beyond the insurance requirement and the approved dates and times.
