Abilene Zoo reports temporary reindeer exhibit, donated bison and upcoming spring-break events

Jesse Pottebaum, director of the Abilene Zoo, told the board the zoo retained reindeer temporarily after the Christmas season; the animals will remain at the zoo through about the end of February or the first week of March. Pottebaum said the zoo also acquired a bison donated by a local rancher and that staff are seeking a mate to pair with the new animal.
Pottebaum said the zoo’s spring-break program, tentatively March 8–16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature live shows and "wild experiences" that are included with general admission; membership holders attend free. He also referenced publicity the zoo received related to warthogs whose vocalizations were used in a Lion King film; Pottebaum said the warthogs' vocalizations were recorded in the same region as animals the zoo acquired.
Pottebaum said the zoo will feature the bison at an upcoming Zubilation gala, and he invited board members and the public to check the zoo’s schedule. No formal action was taken on the zoo report.
