Grand Prairie parade routes through downtown, Dalworth for Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

"A brisk sun drenched Saturday morning on the 3rd weekend of January brought lots of men, women, boys, and girls from all over Grand Prairie to be a part of the city's Martin Luther King Junior Day parade and celebration," a staff member said.
The procession began at City Hall, proceeded west on Main Street, continued along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard through the historic Dalworth neighborhood and concluded at David Daniels Elementary Academy, where a program was held indoors. The parade included participants from Grand Prairie Independent School District schools and attendance by city and state officials, the announcer said.
The event honored the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the civil rights leader whose birthday is observed nationally on Jan. 15; the third Monday in January is observed as a national day of service and, this year, falls on Jan. 20.

City materials accompanying the announcement said the parade route passed through downtown and into the Dalworth neighborhood and culminated at the elementary school program. Organizers noted the event featured students, teachers and parents from elementary, middle and high schools in GPISD (Grand Prairie Independent School District).
