Ashe County commissioners adopt proclamation supporting Blue Ridge Parkway recovery grant efforts

Wes, speaking to the county’s role, said the Parkway has sustained extensive tree loss and landslides and that repair funding is needed to restore views, reopen closed segments and return visitor traffic that supports local economies.
"They're trying to match a grant from the state on trying to fix the Blue Ridge Parkway," Wes said. "There's been so much damage on the Parkway ... the Pisgah District ... is still closed."
Commissioners noted that Parkway closures and damaged roadways reduce tourism and revenue for mountain counties and that the proclamation aligns Ashe County with other affected counties seeking state assistance. The board voted to submit the proclamation in support of grant requests to the state.
No further action or county funding for Parkway repairs was taken; the proclamation is a formal expression of support for state grant coordination and repair planning.
