County staff told commissioners that the waiver, which had run through the end of the previous year under a state relief bill, covered many small repairs such as electrical safety checks and meter repairs; about $9,300 in fees were waived in the prior calendar year. Staff recommended an extension because more storm-related permits are expected as repairs continue into spring.
Commissioner Elders asked whether any waivers had been requested that were unrelated to the storm; staff said inspectors maintain lists tied to initial damage assessments and that inspections are cross-referenced to avoid inappropriate waivers.
Commissioner Elders moved to extend the waiver to March 1; commissioners discussed an end date of Feb. 28 and the board approved the extension to Feb. 28, 2025. Staff said they would return to the board at the second February meeting if further extension was required.
