The board unanimously approved a request to contribute $3,900 to the East Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund (ECIHTF), a certified 501(c)(3) that administers regional housing-rehab, emergency repair and rental/owner assistance programs for low- and moderate-income households.
The ECIHTF presenter—identified as the housing director for the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG)—told supervisors the trust fund leverages state and federal sources (including Iowa Finance Authority and Federal Home Loan Bank funds) and makes both grants and low-interest loans to projects that serve low- and moderate-income residents. The director reported that the fund awarded or expended about $193,950 in Iowa County in the last year, assisting roughly 20 households through a mix of homeowner rehab, emergency repairs and rental/private projects; the presenter said the county contribution helps the trust fund match larger state or federal awards.
A supervisor moved that the chair sign the ECIHTF funding letter; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The presenter thanked the board for its continuing support and said the trust fund accepts applications from organizations and homeowners and prioritizes projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents across Benton, Iowa, Jones and Washington counties.
The board asked the ECICOG presenter to supply a copy of the funding packet electronically after the meeting.
