Waterford moves forward with elementary playground replacements under 2020 bond; five schools targeted for summer work

The Waterford School District on Jan. 16 presented plans to replace and upgrade elementary playgrounds at multiple schools using proceeds from the 2020 bond, with five elementary sites targeted for work in the summer of 2025.
Assistant Superintendent Carla Ramirez told the board the program moved some playgrounds from a later priority group into an earlier round after routine inspections found equipment that had to be removed. A playground designer worked with principals to prepare site plans and equipment selections, Ramirez said.
Ramirez said the district is replacing pea gravel surfacing with mulch at most sites, adding walking tracks in several locations and replacing outdated or worn play equipment. "We expect that this equipment will last about 20…
